🔥Biography


Jacob Alexander Evangelista—better known by his stage name The Therapist—is a Sierra Leone–born Afro-fusion artist whose genre-defying sound is carving out a new space in African contemporary music. Raised in Freetown, he developed an early love of music, drawing on a wide palette of influences as a teenager. This eclectic foundation now powers a signature style that seamlessly blends Afrobeats, Amapiano, and other global elements with his African roots. 


Rise to Prominence


Viral Beginnings: The Therapist first gained widespread attention on TikTok, where his short dance skits and freestyles earned him a huge following. 


Breakout Single: In March 2022, he released “Nack”, his debut single. The song exploded across platforms, becoming a viral hit. 


Streaming Milestone: His “Nack” music video reached 2 million YouTube streams within four months—a landmark not just for him but for Sierra Leone’s music scene. 


Local Impact: By the end of 2022, he was ranked the #1 hottest artist in Sierra Leone  a testament to how quickly he rose to prominence. He later followed up the next year with a remix with Mayorkun, reaching higher levels

Growing Discography & Breakthroughs


After a brief break following “Nack”, he made a strong return in September 2024 with “4×4”, a high-energy Amapiano-infused track featuring South African star Tyler ICU. 


This release marked a new chapter in his career. Produced by Nigerian producer Magicsticks (known for his work with Asake) and Tyler ICU, “4×4” underscores The Therapist’s commitment to exploration and boundary-pushing. 


He is currently signed under 5K Records Limited, in partnership with Sony Music UK and WYN Enterprise, putting him on a trajectory with serious global potential. 


Personal & Background


The Therapist is a student of architecture at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, which speaks to his multifaceted interests beyond music.
